World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour Campaign

The PRactice team engaged in a social media campaign to activate college students on their campuses to participate in Earth Hour, a March 28 turn-off-your-lights initiative by the World Wildlife Fund to raise awareness of global climatechange and the small acts individuals can make each day to reduce their impact onthe environment.

The members actively created and recruited members to Facebook groups and fan pages, kept a Campus Earth Hour Twitter feed, pitched Earth Hour stories to blogs and campus publications, and made personalYouTube videos promoting the cause, encouraging others to do so as well. 2008-2009 PRacticeCo-CEO, Colleen Maleski, was interviewed on CNN about the social media outreach for Earth Hour.

In addition, the PRacticeteam got the lights turned off in the Orton Hall bell tower, showing the Ohio State University’s support for the movement despite Earth Hour’s date falling on spring break.
